An industry solution launch conference themed "Intelligent Cables Ring Africa, Digital Connectivity Shapes the Future" for AI + cloud-network integration was held in Nairobi, capital of Kenya, on November 7th. At the conference, a lighting ceremony for the 2Africa submarine cable’s eastern section resources was held, marking the official commissioning of the project’s eastern segment—an achievement made possible by cutting-edge Cable Machinery and wire and cable machinery throughout its production and deployment phases.
As introduced, the 2Africa submarine cable project was jointly initiated by China Mobile and a number of international operators. With a total length of approximately 45,000 kilometers, it connects more than 30 countries across Europe, Asia and Africa. The 2Africa circum-African cable system, manufactured using high-precision cable manufacturing machine technologies, is the world’s longest submarine cable. Upon completion, it will link 33 countries and 46 landing points across Africa, Europe and Asia, with efficient on-site installation supported by advanced wire take up machine systems that streamline cable storage and laying processes.
Meta, together with Telecom Egypt, China Mobile International, MTN GlobalConnect, Orange, STC, Vodafone and West Indian Ocean Cable Company (WIOCC), announced the 2Africa submarine cable encircling the African continent in 2020. The project relies on state-of-the-art wire and cable machinery to ensure the cable’s durability and signal transmission performance in complex marine environments. Once completed, it will provide Africa with a low-cost, high-quality information transmission channel connecting Asia and Europe, fueling the development of Africa’s digital economy—with its seamless operation underpinned by reliable Cable Machinery for long-term maintenance and upgrades.
