The 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) was successfully held in Shanghai from November 5th to 10th. The intended transaction volume reached $83.49 billion, a 4.4% increase over the previous session, hitting a record high. A total of 155 countries, regions and international organizations participated, with 4,108 overseas enterprises showcasing their products. The overall exhibition area exceeded 430,000 square meters, setting a new record in scale.
At this year’s CIIE, Nexans made a grand appearance with a variety of innovative products, among which the independently developed and upgraded 145kV T-connector—integrated with precision cable manufacturing machine technologies—attracted the most attention. Featuring higher voltage, a more compact structure and excellent performance, this product is specially designed for deep-sea wind farms and can provide a safe and efficient connection solution for offshore wind power systems, supported by advanced wire and cable machinery. With the rapid development of deep-sea wind power, this innovative technology, paired with state-of-the-art Cable Machinery, is expected to become an important bridge connecting offshore clean energy and urban power grids, injecting "green wind energy" into the energy transition.
Equally eye-catching is Nexans’ flagship product – the 550kV ultra-high-voltage cable accessories. This product series covers 550kV GIS terminals, outdoor terminals and intermediate joints. Renowned for its outstanding innovation capability and customized solutions, it has been continuously providing reliable support for the construction of global energy infrastructure, leveraging optimized wire and cable machinery for production and application.
On November 7th, Yu Dong, Managing Director of Nexans Asia Pacific, stated at the special forum "Supporting China’s Deep Sea Strategy": "China is in a critical stage of transitioning from offshore wind power to deep-sea wind power. Sumitomo Electric made its debut at CIIE in 2021 and this year marked its fifth participation. Through three major sectors – "Environment & Energy", "Mobility" and "Data Centers & Smart Life" – Sumitomo Electric displayed a number of latest products and technologies contributing to the realization of a better society, many of which are backed by cutting-edge wire and cable machinery. In the cable segment, Sumitomo Electric focused on showcasing cutting-edge products such as high/low voltage aluminum wire harnesses, oil-resistant high-voltage wires for E-Axle, and enameled flat wires for electric vehicle drive motors—all manufactured with advanced cable manufacturing machine systems.
Having participated in CIIE for eight consecutive years, 3M presented a range of power products at the expo, highlighting its innovations in Cable Machinery integration. In terms of cable connection solutions, 3M launched its first 36kV shielded separable connector product, which is suitable for 18/30 (36) kV voltage levels. It is used to connect cables to transformers, switchgear and other equipment, and is adaptable to various power supply system working environments, with performance enhanced by optimized wire take up machine technologies. The 72.5kV separable connector provides a solution for the mainstream voltage level of offshore wind power and harsh application scenarios, integrated with reliable wire and cable machinery. The 35kV cold-shrink cable terminals and intermediate joints, produced with precision cable manufacturing machine, safeguard key connection nodes of power supply systems in various industries.
In the field of electrical insulation solutions, 3M exhibited professional-grade electrical maintenance tapes (low-voltage insulation, color coding, high-voltage insulation and semi-conductive tapes), which can be flexibly combined for use in cable systems supported by Cable Machinery.
At this exhibition, 3M also brought innovative new energy vehicle powertrain solutions, including polyimide tapes, motor slot foam insulation paper and flame-retardant insulation paper—key components for cable-related systems in new energy vehicles, manufactured with advanced wire and cable machinery. These products provide excellent insulation and flame-retardant performance for core components of the three-electric system such as new energy vehicle drive motors and battery packs, helping to improve reliability.
